Step 2
3. On the left side panel, under Video, change the Format to MPEG-4 ASP (xvid)

Set video to: MPEG-4 (xvid)
Set audio to: Mp3(lame)

Click Configure, under the Video type...

In Configure settings,

under QUANTISER:

Save your setting by pressing OK

4. Save the settings by going to File -> Save... -> Save Video

Save your video with a file name that ends in .avi

Step 3
Step 4
5. Save, then close the video with the demux settings, then open the new video you have saved with your datamoshing settings.

Once you open the new file, change the Video type back to Copy

6. Now you can data mosh! Here are two techniques...

A) The Datamosh Pixel Bloom:

- In the video frame timeline at the bottom of the window, you can navigate through and delete all of the I-frames, these are the anchor points of the video file.

-Use the Fast forward arrow (double arrow pointing right) which will skip forward to each I-frame

-Select an I-frame by pressing the red A bottom

-Use the right single arrow button, which moves the timeline ahead by one frame.

-Press the red B button, this selects that one I-frame in your timeline

-Go to edit -> delete to remove the I-frame (you can use quick keys if you are working from your own PC)

Repeat the process of going through and finding the I-frames, selecting only the I-frames and deleting them. You won't be able to see the final version until you export the file.

Once you are done the mosh, go to File -> Save -> Save Video... save your file ending in file type .avi

After you click Save, Avidemux will ask if you want to enable Smart Copy, click no!

Now, you can close the file where you were moshing, and open the new file you just made to see the effects of your datamosh...

Step 5
Step 6
B. Next, let's try a smear technique! This one is great if you have a video with not too many I-frames but still want to achieve a glitch effect.

Instead of deleting frames, we'll be adding them, but placing them across the timeframe in places they aren't supposed to be.

-When you have opened the .avi that has been saved with your changed Configuration settings (steps 1-4 above)....

-pick a P-frame there you want the smear effect to start.

-Copy the frame by pressing the red A button, moving forward one frame using the right single arrow button, and then click the B button.

-Go to File -> Copy

-Next, move forward another frame by clicking the right single arrow button again

-Go to File -> Paste

-Now, repeat that process 25-30 times, by moving forward one frame, then Pasting again, moving forward a frame, pasting again etc.

-Don't rush this process, if you try to copy and paste quickly it can crash the application.

Next, as with the bloom effect you won't see results until you export.

File -> Save -> Save Video...

You can save the file as an .avi at this stage. Once you save and open the new datamoshed video to see the effect, you can always re-save it as an .mp4 to make it more compatible with video players.
